Sociocultural Lab

Department of Psychology · King’s College London

Welcoming new members at the start of 2025-26 academic year!

Several new members joined the Sociocultural Lab in September 2025. Their projects span a range of topics central to the group’s interests in meaning-making, culture, and social experience.

Zhang, Wen has joined as a PhD Researcher examining the social and cultural demands experienced by Chinese international students. Her qualitative, longitudinal project compares students’ expectations before arrival with their lived experiences after arrival, with a particular focus on the role of social capital in shaping adaptation.

We also welcomed a new cohort of undergraduate researchers. Hogan, Amelie and Jiang, Yijia are collaborating on a cross-cultural replication of the cultural patterning of sympathy findings reported in Chauhan et al. (2023), extending this work beyond the UK context.

Inamdar, Faiza is exploring the sociocultural influences on how dating is experienced by young adults in the UK and India, investigating how social norms and cultural expectations shape intimate life.

Kong, Xiangyi (Kevin) and Zhu, Jessica are working together to understand Chinese international students’ social and pedagogical transitions in British higher education.

A very warm welcome all our new members!
