Their projects span a range of topics central to the group\u2019s interests in meaning-making, culture, and social experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zhang, Wen<\/strong>&nbsp;has joined as a PhD Researcher examining the social and cultural demands experienced by Chinese international students. Her qualitative, longitudinal project compares students\u2019 expectations before arrival with their lived experiences after arrival, with a particular focus on the role of social capital in shaping adaptation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also welcomed a new cohort of undergraduate researchers.&nbsp;<strong>Hogan, Amelie<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Jiang, Yijia<\/strong>&nbsp;are collaborating on a cross-cultural replication of the&nbsp;<em>cultural patterning of sympathy<\/em>&nbsp;findings reported in Chauhan et al. (2023), extending this work beyond the UK context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inamdar, Faiza<\/strong>&nbsp;is exploring the sociocultural influences on how dating is experienced by young adults in the UK and India, investigating how social norms and cultural expectations shape intimate life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kong, Xiangyi (Kevin)<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Zhu, Jessica<\/strong>&nbsp;are working together to understand Chinese international students\u2019 social and pedagogical transitions in British higher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A very warm welcome all our new members!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Several new members joined the Sociocultural Lab in September 2025.
